Workshop: Porto - um passeio virtual

 The workshop will be presented by Marta Martinho in Portuguese. It will take place on Saturday 8th April from 11am to 1pm in the Portuguese Language Centre, 9 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.

Fee: €10 for PLC students*; €15 public**  Places are limited so booking is essential.

In this European Portuguese language workshop you will be taken on a guided tour of Porto. You will decide whether to head towards the architectural marvels such as the São Francisco church or the Casa da Musica or soak up the atmosphere of the Cais da Ribeira all the while navigating your way in Portuguese and learning about this European City of Culture from one of its natives. You will learn lots of new vocabulary and expressions related to travel, directions and tourist sites besides learning about the cultural and historical makeup of Porto.

Workshop: Papo de rua

 The workshop will be presented by Juliana Menezes in Portuguese. It will take place on Saturday 11 March from 11am to 1pm in the Portuguese Language Centre, 9 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.

Fee: €10 for PLC students*; €15 public**  Places are limited so booking is essential.

 This language workshop will focus on Brazilian Portuguese as it is spoken in very informal situations. You will learn popular expressions, slang and gestures that are commonly used in Brazil but that you won't necessarily find in the textbooks!

Clube do livro

The Clube do Livro will take place on Saturday 25th March. There will be two sessions, the first from 10:30am to 12 noon will be for beginners and elementary level students; the second from 12:30pm to 2pm will be for improvers (pre-intermediate to advanced in our levels).

To join, simply book your place below and we send you the reading material. You must read the material before the Clube do Livro and turn up on the day ready to discuss and analyse the text with the teacher and other students.

Workshop: The "Brazils" in Brazil

 In this workshop you will be introduced to the varied historical and geographical influences that have shaped the culturally diverse country that is Brazil today.

  

The major historical periods will be outlined highlighting demographic changes and emerging economies. You will explore the 5 regions of Brazil, getting a flavour of their distinct cultural heritages and come to understand that Brazil is a country of contrasts. Having walked through the different religious, musical and culinary traditions, to name a few, you will see, that although Brazil is one country, in reality there are many 'Brazils' within Brazil.

 She completed her Masters degree and her PhD in Social History at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, working on themes of Brazil-United States cultural and educational exchange in the 20th century. She has been a visiting researcher at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., and is a member of historical and social studies international associations, such as the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA), the American Historical Association (AHA) and Rede Europeia de Brasilianistas de Análise Cultural / European Network of Brazilianists Working in Cultural Analysis (REBRAC).  She has written a number of articles on Brazil's 20th century history, Latin American Foreign Affairs and Brazil-United States International Relations.

 

 

Fernanda Lima Rabelo is a researcher and assistant professor from Instituto Federal Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro. 

 The workshop will be presented by Fernanda Lima Rabelo in English with activities in both English and Portuguese. It will take place on Saturday 11 February from 11am to 1pm in the Portuguese Language Centre, 9 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.
