Our Teachers

Juliana Menezes - from São Paulo, Brazil

Juliana is the academic director and founder of the Portuguese Language Centre and is an accredited Portuguese Language Teacher and Journalist. She has been teaching, researching and promoting the Portuguese language for over fifteen years.

Juliana is the principal Brazilian teacher in the school and has now taught more than 3000 students from over 30 different countries helping them to use Portuguese at work, in trips and in their interactions with family and friends from Brazil, Portugal, Angola and Mozambique.

Juliana has taught Portuguese in Brazil, Australia and in Ireland, where she has been living for twelve years. Here in Ireland she taught in UCD, National University of Ireland - Maynooth, Marino College and other language institutes and companies before realising her dream of opening her own school.

Teresa Cecilio - from Leiria, Portugal

Teresa Cecilio, European Portuguese teacher, originally from Leiria in the centre of Portugal. Living in Ireland since the year 2000.

She qualified in Faculdade de Letras da Universidade of Porto with a BA Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures - Portuguese and French and completed a Higher Diploma in Education at the same University.

Broadly experienced in teaching both Portuguese Mother Tongue and Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Teresa is registered with the teaching council of Ireland.

Teresa taught in Porto, Lisbon and now in Dublin, where she has worked at Second Level, teaching Junior and Leaving Certificate, International Baccalaureate and in the European school. She also worked at third Level in U.C.D. as well as in several Languages schools and Adult Education Centres.

In addition to her teaching experience she has also worked in translation and interpreting.

Teresa is teaching group, private and in-company classes in European Portuguese at the Portuguese Language Centre.

Paula Passarelli – from São Paulo, Brazil

Paula has been living in Ireland since 2016. She has a Bachelors Degree in Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese Literature from Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL) and a Masters Degree in Brazilian Literature from Universidade de São Paulo (USP).

She has experience teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language in Brazil and in Ireland.

Paula has worked as a Portuguese and literature teacher in Sao Paulo and has more than 10 years experience working as a proofreader and copyeditor for some of the biggest publishing houses in Brazil. She has also translated some books from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
She enjoys teaching and is passionate about the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture.

Thiago Almeida - from Recife-PE, Brazil

Thiago has been living in Ireland for 9 years. He has a Bachelors Degree in Portuguese and English from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS), is a CELTA certified English teacher and is currently pursuing an M.Phil. in Applied Linguistics at Trinity College.

He has more than 8 years experience teaching Portuguese as a second language. In addition to that, he has worked as an interpreter and a translator in various capacities.

Thiago is a language enthusiast and is passionate about second language acquisition and Brazilian Portuguese as a heritage language in Ireland.

Thiago is teaching group and private classes at the Portuguese Language Centre.

Management and Marketing

Liz Clooney - from Waterford, Ireland

Liz is the school business manager and has been working with the Portuguese Language Centre since August 2015.  She has a background in IT and education and understands the dynamics of a language school having taught English as a foreign language in Paris many moons ago.
